What are store security allowed to do?
2/19/2009 at 10:19 PM
lol my husband and I were just doing some shopping at one of our big chain stores here. When we
were walking up we saw one young guy come out (looked early 20's) followed by the store security
person who grab the guy's jacket and yanked him around. We held back across the cross walk as we
had our kids with us and didn't want to get near them if it turned into a fight. The guy who he
grabbed looked about ready to punch him till the security guy yelled something at him along the
lines of to walk with him quietly and only get theft charges or carry on and get charged with
more. So the kid did back down and go with him back to the security office. Anyway my question is
are they allowed to do that? back in the day when I worked at that store, they were not allowed to
go outside and get them, they had to still be in the store and they definately were not allowed to
grab them that way. The kid did steal something (not sure what though). I was very shocked at how
aggresive the security guy was, just wondering if anyone knows the law on those things? Not that
I'm trying to defend the kid who stole lol, he pretty much got what he deserved. Just wondering
how much of that is actually allowed?
