Question about piñatas...

My son is having his 10th birthday tomorrow and he told me he wants to have a piñata. The problem is, I don't know anything about them. I know you put candy in them and then someone (usually the birthday boy) whacks it with a stick until it breaks open, but...what happens after that? What happens after the candy falls out?
Oh...and another question, is there anywhere in Brandon I can take the piñata to have it filled with candies? Or am I stuck buying packages of candies and putting them inside myself?
