Unpleasant neighbour. What would you do??
9/11/2009 at 5:53 PM
After taking a few deep breaths I'm wondering if how I just "handled" an unpleasant neighbor situation was right or wrong.... and so I'm asking all of you... What would you have done?
My 9 year old son came home from school and saw a reflective marker at the end of our yard ( I should mention this marker was between our yard and the neighbor's) being a curious 9 year old he went to investigate and apparently pulled it out of the ground. Meanwhile I'm in another room of our house, windows open, and I hear someone yelling profanity and a child crying no sooner had I gone to the front window to investigate what on earth was going on... and see my son come running scared into our house. When I asked what was wrong he said through his tears that the neighbor had yelled and swore at him for touching the marker. Well let me tell ya Mama Bear kicked in and I was out the door and banging on her front door demanding to know what her problem is!!
Now I should mention that this particular neighbor has a problem in following the pet bylaws and has continuously allowed her cats to run wild and just guess who's flower bed they've been using for a litter box for the past 3 years? It was so bad that this year I decided against planting flowers because of it. Sorry for being so long-winded .... anyway about 3 weeks ago I witnessed her cat in my back yard doing it's business and then proceeding to spray our deck.... so I called animal control.... she wasn't too pleased let me tell you.
Anyway back to this afternoon... I'm not going to lie and say I was calm because I wasn't I just wanted to know why she felt the need to swear and yell at a little child... does it make her feel tough?? If there's a problem and you don't want him touching your marker then be an adult and come talk to me... she pushed open her front door and tried pushing me down her stairs... threatened to punch me etc...
I just told her that she better NEVER threaten, yell or swear at either one of my kids again!!!!
My question is should I have handled this differently... perhaps calmed down first before stomping over there .... it's just that noboby but nobody is gonna abuse my child ....
