Is it legal to "borrow" online photos?

I asked this on another thread but as it was under another topic I did not get an answer. I am going to be promoting my book at a craft sale next weekend. As it is set in the 1880's I was wondering if I can "borrow" some photos from the internet from that time and display them on a digital frame. I am not printing them, and am not making money from them, it is just to add a little bit of interest.
