Need help with boxspring

My Queen Boxspring won't fit upstairs to the master bedroom. Has to go up to landing and around a 90degree, three more steps and then another 90degree into master bedroom. Not too worried about the second 90degree as the bathroom is across from master bedroom - it is just the first one at the top. We tried every possible way, twist and turn - no go. Only other idea is to cut/saw the boards at the bottom of the boxspring and fold it around the 90degree corner, then when it is in the bedroom, nail 1x4's on to support it again.
Has anyone had to try this ???
Ideas please - tired of sleeping on Queen Mattress that is on a Double Boxspring. (a little tippy at the edge hehehe)
