That sounds interesting, I'd sure be interested to hear their game plan.
Years ago, I was involved in a service group, and they did some great things, as I believe all of them do: however, there was something missing, that ultimately led to me opting out.
Most certainly, this was only an idea that has grown in our own sphere of influence, namely our family: the growth of our city and the further growth of negative aspects that seem to come along with that have gotten my attention, where all of our kids are concerned. When I'm in the different schools, in particular the high schools, I'm disappointed with the lack of respect and general lack of goodwill that so many kids have for each other, not to mention the teachers.
I feel like our community is disconnected with our youth and that's why everyone is so fearful of this gang activity that we keep hearing about.
The activities that you spoke of, yeah, and you're right on the money,IMO, that these types of programs need to be expanded on, big time.
In my humble opinion, the only way this thing gets any traction is by making it a part of the curriculum in each school: having a good education and living in a climate of respect for your peers and leaders, not to mention parents might sound a little pollyannish, but what's the alternative.
What if every kid was taught and encouraged to go out of their way to help an older person with yard work or shovel a driveway a couple of times a week, this could be a club mantra.
This paperwork(idea)has to hit every kids desk and it has to be their mandate to accomplish and promote, to further the mission.
Meetings would include reports on their weekly accomplishments and lots of feel good stories...because people want to feel good, and when people feel good, they make others feel good and so the cycle begins.
And with respect, I would say that the feeling one gets when they volunteer for a noble cause is the only reward you should be expecting, otherwise you lose the essence of what volunteerism is.
Also, and again with respect, I don't know if you could get more productive hanging out than being around like minded people with a common mindset of improving our community and having fun doing it.
Like I said, this is what goes on in my brain pan, it's also what I promote in my house and of course when I'm on ebrandon or when anybody stands still long enough, lol.
