Two Canadians face charges for desecration of US flag

I fail to see the difference between what they did and the US women's hockey team allegedly walking on a Canadian flag before the gold medal game. (keep in mind both incidents are said to have happened around olympic time)
Whats more scary is these two guys could face up to a year in jail.
