Brake Lights

Our Venture van has just decided that the brake lights are no longer going to work. My husband has checked the fuses and the bulbs and everything looks ok. It is just the two lights on the side that don't work, the one on the top of the hatch still works. I was wondering if anyone out there has any idea what it could be and who would be the best person to take it to? I would like it if I could take it somewhere and they kinda give me an estimate of what the cost will be. I don't know if any mechanics do that or not?? Any advice would be much appreciated.
