Seriously guys, whats the deal with buffets?

Whats the deal with buffets, and this obsession with them???
They are garbage most of the time, food that was cooked sometime between a half hour and yesterday, you have to get up and get your own plate, all the food is bland so "everyone" can enjoy it, they are more expensive then ordering a fresh meal and the quality is half!!!
Weddings, Restaurants, Banquets... I dont understand the craze over buffets at all
do you think your getting more value???
I guess i dont really see the "value" in paying more $$ for a giant pile of leftovers
can someone explain this to me?
