Another people rudeness vent....

I was in the liquor mart on 10th and Vic the other day and there was one till open and a line up of about 7 people. I was 3rd in line and the current person at the till had a lot of stuff to go through. There was an elderly lady in front of me.
One of the other clerks opened the second register and said "Can I help someone over here?"
I motioned and said to the lady ahead of me "go ahead" - after all she was waiting before I ever was!
She made a move to cross over to the 2nd register, but not before two young men (who had been at the very back of our line) absolutely ran to try and get there before her.
It made me ill with their inconsideration.
I really appreciate when places like Safeway actually come over and ask the person waiting the longest to come to a new till. It is a nice courtesy. The people behind can then make a choice whether to defect to the new or stay at the old, but common courtesy should be people get served in order.
Perhaps the staff at any store with line-ups should take the time to do this.
Why should those young bucks cross over the path of a little old lady who had clearly been waiting a heck of a lot longer to get through? I was really bummed over that.
