Saving Money At Somebody Else's Expence
2/19/2007 at 4:58 PM
Spring must be in the air ( for me anyway) as of late im finding something to laugh about. Whether it comes from my children, my hubby, or just on T.V., or reminiscing old stories.
This one in particular has kept me chuckling for sometime now and I just wanted to share with you.
We all know that kids do the stupidest things sometimes and adults do too. I think that somewhere in this story you'll have a smile or smirk ( whichever)by the time its over.
The guy in the story has passed on but his story still remains. The fellow in question was a bachelor and pretty much a loner for the most of his life.
He lived in Oak Lake Mb. and in a small kinda run down little house. His house was situated on a corner lot adjacent to the MTS building with a back lane separating their properties.
This fellow concocted a plan to save money on his electric bill. And he did quite well until the day he died and nobody knew about it.
He constructed a small trench across the back lane roadway and buried a small pipe that ran from one side of the back lane to the other side. Every night at dark ( sometimes sooner than dark i'd guess) he'd thread a heavy duty extension cord through the pipe, a cord long enough to reach the MTS building and there he would plug in his power supply for his lights, his T.V., his little cooking grill, and so on.
The reason for the trench in the road was to keep suspicions away if somebody happened to stumble over his cord at night.
Very ingenuous plan, don't you think? Can you imagine the money he saved. For how many years this went on, no one knew.
