I would like to give you just a short explanation of who the 50” 60”s 70’s East Enders are. We are a Face book group that was started in February of 2010. We consist of over 268 members in less than one year. We are mainly a group of people that grew up in the east end during those eras. To many the site is a place for connecting with old childhood friends: to others it is a place to trigger some old memories from many of the pictures that have been posted to the site. Be it play in the Rideau park, swimming at the pool, or school I think most would agree it was the rink, that sticks out the most in our minds. It was a place were we all came together as a community. The rink offered so much to us as kids……….it was full of friends fun, a lots of good times whether it was winter carnival, Saturday afternoon dances, hockey games, jam pail curling sock hops or Saturday afternoon movie matinee It truly was a big part of our lives. We decided that we would like to now give back to the rink for all good times and memories it gave to us.
So, 50’s 60’s 70’s East Enders held an online auction on the site. The auction was an original 22 ½ X 18 ½ inch painting of the east end community center with one of Brandon well know land marks in the background it was a winter scene because this is when we remembered the rink to be fully alive. It was created & donated to us by one of our members, a fellow by the name of Mr. Garth Taylor who him self grew up across the street from the rink back in the 50’s 60’s and now resides on the west coast today. We had the painting professionally matted framed and titled the rink. The auction ran from September 27, 2010 to December 3, 2010. The auction Raised $ 850.00 The proceeds of the auction were presented to the East End Community Center on Saturday January 15, 2011
