Does anyone else have this problem ? I wash my sheets and blankets and towels and then store in my closet , I go to change my bedding a week later and they have a mild musty odor to them , and I have put them away totally dry . Any ideas or suggestions or ideas would be appreciated . thx .

Storing them with bounce sheets placed in between. Works great!

I wash all my towels and linens in hot water/cold rinse and haven't experienced a musty smell. You can try a cup of vinegar in the load, no soap, then re wash with detergent. Hot Hot Hot, the water temperature is important in getting the smell out.

is the laundry picking up the smell from your closet? maybe you need a dehumidifier or to take out old carpet, repaint the closet or something like that? bounce sheet might work or some air freshener but you might want to look at the route cause

Warm sunshine and fresh air drying on a clothesline are nice in the summer. from outside right back on the beds.  
 
Sometimes front load washers get musty seals and smells and gaskets need to be wiped and dried after every load, as well as doing an empty vinegar wash from time to time.

may need to clean the washing machine by running a cycle with vinegar or bleach (don't mix the two though, one or the other). Between loads, always keep the washing machine lid/door open.  
 
Also, be sure to switch washed loads to the dryer right away...if it sits in the machine for much time at all while wet it will pick up a musty smell that you'll notice later.

It happens when I leave a load sitting in the washer too long before putting it in the dryer lol. Dont do that. If that's not the case make sure you're also leaving the washer lid open between uses. An empty vinegar wash to clean it out occasionally. As others mentioned front loads are bad for getting smelly. You can also refresh towel and linens with a vinegar wash in hot water followed by a separate baking soda wash.

I just read somewhere about using baking soda and vinegar, (probably separately) in the wash rather than detergent. Not everytime, but once in a while to clean off the residual detergent.

Yep, throw some vinegar in and do a wash with just vinegar, then wash them again normally with detergent. It'll clean your machine at the same time.

I use peroxide with all my whites/towels/sheets and linens. It kills all the bacteria on them and leaves them smelling perfectly fresh every time.  
 
I used to add javex to my whites/towels etc but found out peroxide is just as effective and much safer.  
 
I use sent free detergents also...

Do a cleaning in your washer. There is a product you can buy to the cleaning. I had same issue mine was more of a sour smell. The cleaning of the washer made a huge difference. I then washed my towels in hot water and ammonia. Have never had the issue again

I've heard of washing your towels and such with no soaps or anything other than 1 cup of vinegar in hot water. After the washing cycle has finished you then put in one nothing but one cup of baking soda, then wash again on hot. It is supposed to refresh the towels from the soap build up.

I put some ammonia in with towels or rags, every once in awhile. Also make sure to clean the machine, especially front loading ones, they always smell. Also if that's the kind you have, leave the door open when not in use.
