Ghost Hunting Shows

The paranormal has always been an interesting topic to ponder for me. Partly because the majority of reactions being on the extreme sides was always hard to understand for me, given what is available. Many are either quite sure of being either for or against, which is very black and white, to the grey area were dealing with.
I am agnostic to the concept, as I am to most anything else supernatural or otherwise. Actually, a better term to use may be "ambiguous". Some don't like when the word agnostic is used to describe a middle ground stance. I think that is a silly argument, but thats a whole new thread.
Either way, I don't give a whole lot of credence to ANY of these ghost hunting shows. First off, you know they need the ratings. But I don't write them off just based on the that aspect of reality tv.
One of the first things I watch for is how they approach the "investigation". If it is said that they intend to "prove" something, then they are discredited before the emf meters are even out. They know what they are looking for, and chances are they are going to find it.
Based on this alone, the vast majority of these shows prove uncredible.
Another thing I watch for is the use of mediums. i have absolutely NO trust in mediums. Criticize me all you want, but I have yet to see one "find" something in a location that is anything more then a broad generalization based on obvious visible cues or easily available historical context.
One show that does come out ahead of all others, is Ghost Hunters/TAPS. They don't seem to use any of the real red flag methods prominent in many others.
But there are also issues to be had there to. I have seen some people highlight "issues" with techniques, even possible fraud on the part of one of the team members.
But I don't really take any of it seriously, simply because its all hearsay. Questionable hearsay at worst, considering the reputation of "unscripted" reality tv.
So long story short, these shows provide good entertainment value. But I have doubts in all of them.
