I am going to be starting A & P 1 online through ACC. A couple years ago I bought a used Seelys A + P text, 8th edition. The recommended text is 10th edition. Is there much difference between the two texts? Will I be able to make due with the 8th edition or should I order the new text?

I don't know about a&p but when I took my course a lot of the questions were straight out of the text word for word, which made it easier. For and easy example the textbook would say "the central nervous system consists of the brain and spinal cord" the work would say "the central nervous system consists of blank and blank" (usually they were a lot more complex then that and were more like a paragraph of questions) and the questions were in order based on the textbook, if you get an outdated text that might not be the case.

Anatomy will never change but the formatting of the text and exercises will probably be different between editions. unfortunately I would say you will need to purchase the latest edition but if that version is going to be used at the school after you are done your course I believe you can sell it back to the book store.

A&P is a notoriously challenging course.... you may want to be driving on all cylinders (and then some!) and an outdated text in this course might make it more difficult than it needs to be. :/

I disagree. I took the Anatomy and Physiology course this past year at BU and I used the 11th edition textbook when the 14th edition was the recommended textbook to buy. Of course, I'm not sure what the course is like taking it online at ACC. You should email your prof to see if the 8th edition will work just fine! The prof is the best person to answer your question IMO.  
 
Between the three editions there was only minor changes, otherwise all the general information was in both. Not only did I have an older edition of the textbook that I used on a daily basis, but I ended up getting a fantastic mark in A&P. Regurgitating word for word on a test isn't the best method to study. Understanding the material will help you out in the long run, especially for a tough course like A&P. But if you stay on top of studying you should do fine!

i agree with new here 8th edition is close enough, for all mine and my husbands course i buy at newest old edition that is cheap and only once i needed the new addition because the course used the new stories in it, frustrating lol, i even use american editions if they say must have canadian, most of them are exactly the same the canadian just cost more  
 
i once used a 5 edition old text because the new canadian edition was $300 and i got it for $1 and much to all the other students frustration the course was still based n my text, my page numbers lined up and everything!!! was great for me but bad for them  
 
 
the only thing if you use old text books is you may have to get good at using the index to look stuff up because the info may not be in the chapter or in the section your course says but the info will be in the text  
 
for acc's a&p you will have no issue with the 8th edition text book and honestly if looking that stuff up makes or breaks your passing then you really didnt understand the info anyway and could use a retake ...good luck

In my 5 years of university I don't think I ever used the current edition of text. Page numbers were usually within a few pages of being correct based on the current edition. I don't remember having any profs that assigned work directly out of the text other than recommended readings. If you are able to save a hundred dollars, I'm sure the older edition will be just fine. Asking the prof is a good idea, unless they had a hand in writing the text, then they will for sure say the newest text is mandatory. Like others have said, if you the only way you understand the material is regurgitating it word for word from the text, you have other problems. Good luck. Study hard!
