I'm just curious when it comes to the dress does the guy really care what it looks like ?

I would say ( FOR SURE ) the guy would care about how the dress looks & how pretty you look in it. I believe the choice we women make in choosing our Wedding dress says a lot about who we are inside....... only my opinion....

will say is he marrying the dress or you? My opinion do not break the bank for a one day dress, just have nice accessories and have your hair done nice and will be perfect.  
You have know have in mind that it's not the dress that makes the marriage happily perfect and worked for years.

In real life, the guy is wondering how much it cost, if the father-in-law beside the dress really likes him, how much longer until we get to the good part? (the reception with food and booze.  

im not a guy but my guess is not a huge amount, sure they like a certain look on you and want you to look beautiful but they more want to see the confidence you have and your joy at getting married to them, plus all the other worries as said. so i would agree, get a nice dress that you like but if your ok not breaking the bank they will be too ...a good husband really just wants to see you happy and a good wife wants the same

I think it really depends on the guy. Myself personally I'd be interested in seeing it  
 
What my sister did when she got married, was she went to the shop that had the dresses. She tried on an obscene amount and her MOA helped her narrow it down to 8. Then my brother in law showed up and of those 8 he said the 4 that he liked. Of those 4 she picked one and obly told the MOA and myself. So he did get a say but was also surprised in the end.

I think it all depends on the guy. If you know your guy, you should have a pretty good idea what the answer is.

as my SO wants it to be a complete surprise when/what/how he proposes. I want the dress to be a surprise to him also.
