Not likely many people are interested in American politics but after listening to the debate this evening I'm glad I'm living in this country. The financial problem in the US, as far as government is concerned, are bad and after listening to this debate I'm left with feeling that things are only going to get worse.  
 
Was sort of interesting but very little as for actual policy which might get government spending under control.

American politics is a media circus and billion dollar industry,the process has passed the point of absurdity, some of the candidates have been at this almost since the last election and there is just over a year to go a TV advertising executives wet dream, funded by the billionaire class

Republican debate??? That's like putting our conservative party into clown suits, feeding them a few pot cookies and then asking them what they think of the job Trudeau is doing!  
 
Great entertainment, but not a lot of substance.  

One point that was touched on by all candidates was the idea that the federal government in Washington was out of control, and hs no intention of reducing spending, the American debt ceiling continues to be raised nearly every year. The lone female candidate touched on a point that I believe was a very important point and yet I feel it was a point that will never be addressed. She made a comment that socialism really was caused by government of all colors, government sees a problem and takes action, which then results in other problems for the economy.  
 
This is just my opinion but I believe that we past the tipping point quite a while ago in regaining control of government, some things become impossible to un do and socialism is one of them because no one wants to give up anything.

The debate was hosted by CNBC and the moderators were awful. Their questions were insulting and lacked facts.  
 
It was nice to see Marco Rubio, Chris Christie, and especially Ted Cruz put the left-wing moderators in their place.  
 
The USA is almost $20 trillion in debt and the moderator had the nerve to ask Christie if fantasy football should be regulated by government,

The Republicans need a debate moderated by a true conservative like Mark Steyn or Mark Levin.  
 
Personally, I am very impressed with Ted Cruz.

If Ted Cruz impresses you, you should watch him when he went after the head of the Sierra Club when it comes to fact base science on Global Warming. You would definitely have a rethink on the "man made" AWG and see it for the money grab it really is!

I'll agree the moderators were terrible and the questions seemed to try and belittle just about every one, did have to sort of chuckle when candidates went after the media. Even though some of the questions where personal attacks I believe that most responded well to the questions and it did show that some of them had a very good understanding of economics and monetary policy. I do believe that the Republican Party is struggling with the problem of how to appease the extreme right in the party.

What the public in the US needs to know is how each candidate would deal with the extreme amount of debt that the US currently has. With the house and senate both controlled by a Republican majority, what would a Republican president do to reduce the debt when the house and senate have been blocking every attempt a Democrat president has been making to do the same thing?  
 
The Republican party has said that things like welfare, food stamps, Obamacare, etc are responsible for the deficit. However, in reality, it is military spending and corporate welfare that eats up the vast majority of the US budget. Obama has been trying to change this, but is stonewalled by the Republicans at every turn.  
 
Will any of these Republican candidates step up and say that corporate tax breaks and military spending have to be reduced to get some debt relief? Or do they honestly think that cutting funding to the smallest of budget items will really make a difference to the big picture?

Climate change is very real and for SOME reason, which I don't understand, the right, including the CPC want to deny it is happening. Frightful. . .and stupid. Ted Cruz isn't going anywhere in the debates except for the right-wing extremists like the Tea Party

The debate brought up many of the concerns of the American people, they touched on just about everything, they covered the fact that there wasn't real wage growth and the increased burden on the middle class, they talked about the tax system and how it was not really fair to everyone and mentioned a flat tax system, they talked of offshore money that they wished could be taxed and remain in the US, and one candidate did mention how ever time that the debt ceiling was raised that the spending on the military increased as well. Just my opinion, but I believe that many American politicians are aware of the problem but realize that military spending is a major part of the economy and drives much of the technological advances seen in the country.  
 
I sometimes wonder how many of today's politicians in the US have listened to a speech made in 1961 by outgoing president Eisenhower where he mentioned the dangers of a industrial military complex.  
 
Of all the candidates, the one that causes me the greatest concern is Donald Trump, his mentioning of building walls to keep people out of the country does appeal to many Americans because it shifts blame to others and that has been used before with really bad results, also he said that he was going to tear up trade agreements that weren't in the best interest of the US, I think that he is forgetting that the world has changed and today it is a global economy and creating an island in this economy will not do the American people any good.

It is this type of overheated hyperbole, as contained in the link you provided, that makes the Republican Party look more like a gong show than reasonable alternative. Donald Trump only augments buffoon quotient.  
 
Perhaps the GOP should look to the north to see how well the "fear everyone but us" strategy may work out.

I watched the Ted cruz video, he asked the sierra club spokesman straight forward and simple questions, and the guy couldn't answer them. what does that have to do with you claiming that it's an extreme right website? It's on tape, it's there! So is it untrue because you don't like the website?

I, too, watched the video. The topic of the hearing was to discuss the impact of climate change on minority communities. Ted Cruz tried to hijack the discussion to force his belief on the witness. I would love to hear Cruz's "logical" explanation for glacier retreats and loss of Arctic and Antartic ice.  
 
The guy answered Cruz's questions. With help, I would agree, but he did answer them. He was there for testimony on the impact of climate change on minorities, not to be the brunt of Cruz's anti-science agenda.

I am pleased to see people take such interest in our neighbor to the south. As our largest trading partner we should take an interest.  
 
Ted Cruz is not a viable Candidate anymore than Donald Trump or Ben Carson. They are all to far the right and reject science/research-based evidence. This plays well into the extremist right and the Tea Party and LOW INFORMATION voters.  
 
If low information voters decide to take one of these three? I fear for the state of the USA in terms of international and interior policies and how they will affect the world.

If the Sierra Club representative's proof of man made global warming is to continually recite the flawed "but 97% of scientists agree" line than I think you have to start asking yourself some tough questions about their claims of "man made" AWG.
