Traveling to Mexico

Hi!!!! I'm heading to Mexico for a week in January, and need to ask a question for those who have vacationed there before. Do you use debit, credit or cash when you're there? If it is cash, do you use Canadian, American or Mexican? And finally, if it is Mexican, is it better to exchange here or there? Thanks!!!
