71 Years Ago: Worlds Largest Battleship is Sunk

Having watched a recent WWII documentary on naval operations, it stated that on this day Japans largest battleship, the Yamato, is sunk by 386 US aircraft. It marks the end of the battleship era as ruler of the Earths seas, and proves that aircraft carriers are far superior even in todays standard. Below is a link to a large model of the ship on display in Japan and a article of Yamatos ill-fated mission to defend her homeland.

Really makes you think how people could make such large and powerful ships back then (even a limited resource nation like Japan).
