This is insane. But then football is very big in the US. NCAA Football stadium are also massive and tend to be larger than NFL stadiums. But this is for a high school. We can't even get basic athletic facility funding most of the time.  
 
Must be nice to live in a place that can easily get that amount of taxpayer funding.

Football is life in Texas. If they can afford it and the majority of tax payers don't mind then good for them. If we could afford a hockey arena that pricey I'm sure it would be built as well. Plus I'm sure they have plans for other uses so no big deal. I wish people around here cared that much about minor/high school sports.

I understand many of these games can attack 100,000.  
 
A large facility has high costs. Yet if it is well used it is money well spent in my opinion.

In manitoba are not exactly cheap. When we start hearing numbers of over $20 million for new arenas is there really much of a difference?

I guess if every kid is going to make the NFL then it's money well spent.  
 
I would sure be passed if I was my tax dollars.

Here's another on the same story. http://www.nytimes.com/2016/05/12/sports/high-school-football-stadium-texas-63-million.html?_r=0 For a city of 160 thousand this stadium works out to less than $400 dollars per person. By comparison small town hockey arenas are 1 to 4 thousand dollars per person. While one might find it silly that such expense could be made for a few football or hockey players, what people will pay is based on its entertainment value. How many seats will be filled watching it. Is entertainment a responsibility of municipal governments? That's a whole other question altogether.
