After reading the discussion on "replacement costs" on insurance companies, it made me wonder just how many others have had hassles with insurance companies, renovation companies, adjusters (from insurance or 3rd party, or???? A comment was noted on how some insurance companies elsewhere gave large bonuses to 3rd party adjusters for "mitigating their losses." Since then, it has been commented that some renovation companies are not even certified - would this not be a requirement???  
 
It would be interesting to hear from others on the problems that they have encountered when they have had a misfortune. I have also wondered how those in Fort McMurray are being treated?  
 
Anyone have any experiences they care to share?

It's not the answer your looking for, but after a house fire in which we essentially lost everything, we were treated great by everyone!  
 
The independent adjuster who came out that day, the insurance company, the restoration company, the contractor, every single person we dealt with was kind, empathetic, and did everything they could to make our shitty situation better and to make things as easy as possible.  
 
I can not speak highly enough of our adjusters and insurance company!

Certification may be a requirement, but that doesn't guarantee that the operatives actually doing the work, know what they are doing. Very often some of these 'skilled' workers do not have the skill sets and experience to carry out work to specific standards and/or don't understand the standards themselves,which they should. It's a little like allowing unqualified people repair and maintain School Buses, it happens
