wheres my penny

I was at a convienence store today buying a 4L jug of milk which cost $4.99 and paid the clerk $6 , three twoonies, and inturn the clerk only gave me back one loonie and no penny. I take the penny back usually since I do collect them, and when asked if I wanted it back (which happens every so often) I take it. Since when have places stopped giving back the penny. Has anyone else noticed this?
