Hi all just looking for some general feedback and comments about the Lions organisation, more of a survey really.  
I am aware, that in some of the more rural towns etc, attracting new members for this worthwile charity organisation can be very challenging.  
So what are your thoughts on this organisation and whether you have considered helping out by joining a group or if not, what were your thoughts about not joining.  
Is there something in particular that put you off joining.  
I am particularly interested in some comments from the ladies, as a good balance of male and female members, seems to be another challenge.

It might help in posting what the Lion's Club does for local community and the networking involved. I guess just a general introduction of what the club is all about.  
 
I'm familiar with the some of the history and good work the Lion's Club does for our City of Brandon (no affiliation), but maybe more information is needed for newcomers and maybe a link/info to a FB group or webpage.

I was a member of a lions club in a small town and really enjoyed it. I've seen and been a part of some of the fundraising events, and involved and seen first hand what the club does for the community and surrounding area. Some of the money raised goes to the eye bank which is a good cause and the rest goes back into the community and local events. If I didn't have to move I'd still be a member.

Personal story,  
 
My daughter had open heart surgery a couple years ago, and that required us to take her to Edmonton. We''re not rich by any means and the traveling from Brandon to Winnipeg and missing work x2 for appointments with her cardiologist had basically drained what little we had saved up.  
When it came time for her to have her surgery we were unsure as to how we were going to be able to afford paying our rent while we were both off work with her in Edmonton.  
The Lions club stepped up and actually covered the cost of our rent for us to allow both my spouse and I to go to Edmonton to be with our daughter and to stay home with her while she recuperated.  
I''m getting choked up thinking about it all over again. They were a godsend to us during that whole ordeal and there''s no amount of thank yous that could suffice.  
Once she was healed up we got invited to one of their luncheons earlier this year to tell her story, and meet with them personally. They''re an amazing group of compassionate people.  
I remember when we met with their rep Jeff, he said "The important thing is that you guys are able to be there to take care of your daughter, you don''t need to be stressing about where you''re going to live on top of that."  
That's the kind of good our local organization is willing to do.

Some of the things we did were similar to what degenerate said as well as helping a family who lost their home due to fire. Also other things like helping to keep a small town rink going, or money for scholarships, community projects like play structures, and I could go on and on.
