I'm hoping someone can help me remember the name of an old book I read as a kid.... here is what I can remember about the story:  
 
It's about a woman who resorts to using a magic flower (a rose I think) in order to have a child. She fails to follow the instructions perfectly and she ends up with two daughters - one has black hair and one has blond hair. The brunette daughter always feels uglier than her sister and sees herself as a failure or evil and ends up running away. Of course everything ends up resolved... but that's about all the detail I can remember.  
 
Does anyone recognize this story or have any idea where I could attempt to find it without knowing the author or title? Thanks for any advice!
