Why do people think they can butt into a line up while waiting for another till to open? Happened again to me today! Another cashier came out and said to me that she could help me and a couple scooted over ahead of me!  
 
It always seems to be the 'older' generation too! I always thought that seniors had the best manners but I guess I'm wrong!  
 
Anyone else experience the same?

Few weeks back I was waiting inline at humptys. Two little old ladies walked in, walked right by my and got inline in front of me. I couldn't believe that. I respected my elders and let them stay ahead of me.

If it's us older people, I can't really understand why we have to be in such a hurry, and also be setting a bad example as far as manners go.  
Time is supposed to give us wisdom and patience (hope that's the right patience), but maybe that is changing as well.  
The idea of entitlement always seem to be changing as far as demographics, if it is now the time of seniors, I think I'll skip this movement, and stick to what I was taught.

So what if another till opens and the people behind you go over. If that till didn't open it would have took you the same amount of time anyway. I think its a little rude to say its usually the "older generation". Maybe have a little respect and let them go ahead of you. Sure its annoying but if that is your biggest concern you are doing okay in life. I mean if you can take time to come and post about it your life can't be that busy anyway.  
 
Anyways I am sorry you had to stand in line for an extra couple of minutes I hope you still found time to enjoy your weekend.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think the main issue and irritant at hand was the fact the cashier told this person in particular to come over next and someone else took it upon themselves to ignore that...so it would seem it's they who can't stand to wait those "extra few minutes in line"

If the store has extra people to run a till, why don't they open the till sooner - I have seen two cashiers with 10 people waiting and waiting and waiting and then the other till finally opens.

Johnbisonbear, for specifying that it was someone from the "older" generation. I tire of the people on here frequently bashing teenagers and young adults.  
 
In my experience most of the "butters" have been of the older generation, too. Recently saw an older gentleman (65+) cut in front of a mom with two young kids. When she called him on it he lied and said that he had been there all along. When I called him on the lie he started swearing and accusing us of bullying our elders. What a splendid example he set for the two young kids. By the end of it the mom and kids were crying, the cashier was upset and the older guy got the satisfaction of having his 20+ items processed through the 15 limit express line ahead of us.  
 
Some people just believe that they are more important than the rest of us.

when the cashier comes over to me, looks at ME and tells me she can help me next I expect to be waited on next. It's all about manners, of which I have plenty! I'm not slagging off the 'older generation' because I'm not that far off myself!  
 
Where are the manners now a days?

.....I am a cashier and just the other day a middle age man stood tapping his card, rolling his eyes, then tapping his hand because a couple were trying to put in their email address and they were having problems.......he finally got PO'd and stomped over to the other till butting in line and kicking the guys stuff out of his way that was paying......talk about rude! There are many out there and all ages!

I was returning something the other morning and the cashier had to get a second person to authorize the return but he couldn't find anyone and these older ladies behind me kept chirping about how they need to open another register and how the one employee (who wasn't able to do the authorization) should get herself trained so they wouldn't have to wait. I was the one waiting patiently with a 4 year old with the attention span of a bird and couldn't have been bothered but these "older generations" seem to feel very entitled! They were lucky my son was with me or I would've turned around and given them a piece of my mind.  
Kudos to all the people working in customer service who have to deal with that kind of garbage from anyone!

a good percentage if you were to have a tough gangster/mafia or a tough gang look that they wouldn't cut you off

thank you for butting in line. I have an appointment to be at and could be late now. But, you just go a head and by the way, have a nice day. Then just ignore them.

R u F... Kidding me...that is manners and you should have said that...I am a senior and I take seniors out with my job and NO WAY would I allow that...step up to the plate...if they get pissed off...Yahoo ..they won't change ...never allow

I am a very passive person and tend to let people walk on me and then I complain after the fact. (A polite Canadian...lol)  
I have found my voice and it amazing to me that I am allowed to say something to these people and that it is not rude of me to do so. You say it in the nicest fashion possible but you say it.  
Excuse me but she did ask me over to her till. They may not move but then they at least know that someone took notice and said something. Many people continue to do these things because they get away with it.

The ones that I get offended with you can not say anything to them or they will call you a racist so you just have to let them in.

I've had it happen, and more often then not its always someone with a silver lid.  
I no longer tolerate it though. I was raised to respect my elders and for years would just quietly stand there and stew.  
 
No longer though. I'm not retired, I work and have appointments to meet. You cut me off now and the whole line is going to hear about it. Sorry, but you have all the time in the world to meet your coffee people at Timmies.  
 
You get what you give and as far as I'm concerned you treat me with disrespect and that gives me full allowance to do the same

the one time I told a man and his wife that the cashier called me, he made a scene and even out in the parking lot, saying 'I can't believe how rude you are', lol Then people look at me and wonder wtf I did! BTW, the couple were not seniors either, haha.

that advanced age does not have to equal automatic respect. I've often thought that a lot of older people can be broken down into two groups, "elders" and "survivors".  
 
Saw one of the later today at the grocery store. Cuts into the express line with a full cartload ahead of a whole lineup of people, who mostly looked like they were trying to grab stuff on lunch before getting back to work. Because obviously the best time for an old and very likely retired man to go shopping is during the lunch rush anyways. I usually just chuckle and think to myself they are just trying to outrun the reaper.

When they open a new till, it now becomes a free-for-all. The cashier should take the next person in line and escort them to the new till.  
 
I never fall for it anymore when they come along. The line thins nicely when everyone else moves to the new line, though.
