So how do you continue to do your job and care? Or better yet do you do your job without empathy?

What kind of job are you talking about?

As a hca I find it’s a mix of things. Big one is self care, if your not happy with yourself it’s hard to be happy with work. Other important things are good coworkers, and taking things at face value. And a big one for me is celebrating little victories and being able to be happy for others.

I'm not sure I understand what you are asking. I work in healthcare so to be professional I would have to show empathy otherwise I would not be doing my job.

That was a great video and there are other good ones there. The one you shared the link for is in a hospital and about patients, families and staff. There are others about kids and different populations. Thanks for sharing the link.  
 
I also work in health care and agree empathy is part of doing the job well. Some are better at it than others.

I know someone who was wanting to harm themselves. They hung themself and then it didn't work so he took himself to emergency and then when he was there they just left him on a bed for quite a long time with nobody checking on him.  
 
Isn't there a different protocol for a situation like this? I know under the Manitoba Mental Health laws it states that if a person is believed to be a danger to themselves or other people that calls for a involuntary admission.
