I'm wondering what everyone out there does with their coats, mitts, hats, knitted items etc. once they start getting worn out.  
I've got all kinds of winter clothing items at home that need small repairs - coats that need a zipper replaced, knitted hats/mitts/etc that need small holes closed up. Normally I would donate things like this but I don't like the idea of donating things that aren't in usable condition. I can't bring myself to throw them away because I know they could be repaired and used again, I just don't personally have the skills to do that kind of work.  
 
Any ideas??? Is there maybe someone around town who can do repairs and then donate? Or is there a place that accepts such donated items for repair?

On Facebook, look up Heather Richardson of AMT Custom Sewing. She does an excellent job on zipper replacements (have had her do several for me) at a reasonable cost.

would be happy to help, I do mending in the evenings for people, and work just up the block from Samaritan house I'd be happy to fix them up & take them down to be donated. I normally charge for mending, but if it's a donation I'm happy to help get them to people who need them free of charge You can inbox me if you like.  
 
I think I may even be able to cannabalize a zipper out of an irreparable coat to fix the one with the broken zipper so it'd cost nothing for me to fix!
