Tour Company and Credit Cards
5/22/2009 at 12:56 PM
I recently booked an online tour. At the time of checking in for the tour I was given my credit card slip and asked to sign it. NO problem. Upon further review they only charged me $12.00. The cost of the tour should have been $120.00. So obviously there was an error on their end of things. I assumed since it had been signed off on that they couldn't go back and charge my card the difference, and if they did surely they would notify me. Get back from the tour and review my online credit card statement and see that they did go ahead without my authorization and charged the $108 difference. The question is: I originally agreed to pay $120 for the tour, but only paid $12.00 do they have a right to go charging my card without my approval for the second time to fix their mistake? I emailed the company and voiced my concerns and the manager was a complete prick and would not apologize or even acknowledge that what they did was unproper business handlings. I did not expect a refund, but it is unnerving to know that companies think they just have a right to go charging your card without your knowledge. I called my card company and they too agreed the company was in the wrong, but they had no authorization to reverse such charges....How long are they legally entitled to keep your credit card information? What type of protection for the consumer who assumes their information is disgarded safely after services have been rendered. This tour company isn't local. The manager was a total douche who basically said it was my problem and to get over it. Well I have, but just wondered what other peoples thoughts and opinions were on this and if you have had a similiar experience with a credit card transaction that dismayed you.
