I'm curious about wild turkeys and turkey hunting.  
 
Does anyone have any tips and where to start?

I had to stop for a rafter(correct term for a group of turkeys, thank you google lol) of turkeys crossing Richmond right before 10th street intersection, so anywhere in south east end would be a good place to start  
There were at least 10 of them. I wish I had gotten a pic or video of it.

No! Don't shoot the town turkeys! I like seeing them and hearing about them. I know they can be bothersome sometimes but Don't shoot them! Find some other place to find wild turkeys!

Come on guys, no ones going to shoot those turkeys because there within city limits and you cant hunt or shoot a gun within city limits. Everyone should know that.  
 
Sorry I cant add anything to the discussion because I've never turkey hunted and wouldn't even know where to star.

The Brandon Wildlife ass. is trapping the wild turkeys on 9th street so they can take them out and shoot them

they netted about 10 just now but there is one flapping around 7 & Richmond ave with a broken wing ??

How do you know that they are going to kill the turkeys? Maybe they are relocating them?

I'm pretty sure they would be catching them and releasing them somewhere out in the country!

I'd call animal control about the injured one!

The Brandon Wildlife Ass is Not a conservation Group,they are taking the turkeys for one reason and that is to hunt and hopefully kill them in season,but one city guy told someone they will likely starve to death due to being born and raised in the cityPlus,they are not afraid of anything and have never been in the wild...

That is horrible I can't believe they are doing that. I love the turkeys in my area

If it is the Brandon Wildlife Association collecting turkeys they are not going to be taking outside city limits and shot. They will be introduced into the wild to repopulate for future sustainable hunting. As a member of the Rivers Game and Fish Association we do turkey releases into the wild all the time. We monitor and track the turkeys and report the success at each monthly meeting. Turkeys in the city pose more of a nuisance than people want to admit. I will attach a facebook link of our release last year along with another link for Canadian Wild Turkey Federation. All these organaizations promote the conservation and sustainability of all game.

City folk just have no idea what is going on. Always thinking negative.

they are trapping them to relocate them to a more appropriate area like the Brandon hills, which I don't believe allows bird hunting only deer hunting

Yes I know they are relocating them. These are probably nuisance birds and are being transfered to their natural habitat; not being taken out and shot.

in the 1890s, when my great grandfather came to Manitoba the trees were full of turkeys. It was a reliable food source.  
Nice to see the efforts to reintroduce this species working out.  

Dont worry city folks u wont be without them for long the wild turkeys will fly back into town where they were before

Not sure where your great Grandfather was in Manitoba because Wild turkeys never existed this far north until 16 were captured in North Dakota in 1958 and released in the Pembina Valley . The turkeys liked Manitoba and have spread far and wide. "They have a pretty healthy population," said Frank Baldwin, Manitoba Conservation's game-bird manager.You can hunt birds in the Brandon Hills too.

Glad to see some one who is in the know, rather than just assuming the BWA is poaching wildlife. It's almost like the members of the BWA are more concerned for the well being of these animals than Joe Blow the keyboard warrior, lol.

info on our resident turkeys. Responsibility of management is with Manitoba Conservation. Note that over the winter ten turkeys were located far away from the city by Manitoba Conservation to reduce the size of the flock, and that Animal Control will not be undertaking any offensive action as part of working with Manitoba Conservation in managing the turkeys:
