Margaret Laurence died on 5th January 1987

Author Jean Margaret Wemyss was born in Neepawa, Manitoba on July 18th 1926.
Following the death of her mother shortly after her fourth birthday a maternal Aunt looked after her family. Only two years later her father died.
She married John Fergus Laurence, an engineer. In 1952 she gave birth to a daughter Jocelyn, and a Son David in 1955.
She separated from her husband and moved to London in 1962, her divorce was final in 1969.
In 1986 Laurence was diagnosed with Lung Cancer that was terminal. She ended her life at her home in Lakefield Ontario on January 5th 1987 when she was 60 years old. This Fact was not revealed until her Biography was published ten years after her death.
She is buried in her hometown in the Neepawa Cemetery, and the house she was born in is now a Museum dedicated to her memory.
