The T. Eaton Company announces to its many customers that its iconic mail order Catalogue was to be discontinued.
Eaton’s was founded by Mr. Timothy Eaton in 1896, and long played a major role in all of the Western Canadian communities. They did not open a store in Brandon until 1925, but they established a “mail order business” in 1884 following the distribution of its first Catalogue to out of town visitors at Toronto’s Canadian National Exhibition, (CNE). This first Catalogue was little more than a booklet containing only 32 pages, but it immediately became popular. Due to this popularity, the family business expanded upon the idea of a mail order department, but when it first started only two staff members operated it. By 1903 this department had grown to have its own building, and were shipping orders all over the country. They even sold house packages.
