Marion Margaret Hales Doig (1902-1961)

She was born in Hartney Mb. on the 21st of September 1902. Her mother was Elizabeth Lewis, (1864 – 1943), and her Father was Mr. B. J. Hales the first principal of the Normal School, (a Teacher training centre) from1911 to 1938, and founder of the B. J. Hales Museum.
She moved to Brandon with him after his appointment. She holds the unofficial title of ‘Community Activist’ and was instrument in the planning of the Allied Arts Centre. She served as President of the Teck Chapter, of the Imperial Order of Daughters of the Empire (l.O.D.E.), and the Brandon Red Cross.
She became an authority on Art, and served on the Brandon School Board from 1948 to 1956. She was inducted into the Manitoba Order of the Buffalo Hunt for meritorious service to her community.
She died at Brandon on the 8th June 1961, and is buried in the Brandon Cemetery.
