Sept 1 marks the anniversary of TWO of Manitoba's biggest disasters in terms of loss of life.
One is the Dugald Train Disaster of 1947 that killed 31 and injured hundreds. More info here:

The other is the Sept 1 1929 Medway Court apartment fire in Winnipeg which killed 9 and seriously injured 4. As far as I can find it is tied for the worst fire in Winnipeg's history. More info here

On my blog, though it is called This Was Winnipeg, I include entries from the entire province. Are there any big loss-of-life disasters that I am missing from around the province ? I imagine that most towns have their share of sad stories. Sadly, we do not a very good job of holding onto them and they get lost forever.
If you know of any let me know, I would like to research them and add them to the blog.
