Where were the Souris coal fields in the 1880's

I am gathering that there was coal fields in westman as early at 1880 along the Souris river. I had always thought that it was closer to Souris itself but came across this land description Sec 32, Tp 3, Range 26 West. I have learned that this is down in the Pierson area, and I expect close to the river. Does any one know if there was another area, or is this where the original "Souris Coal" was from. It is interesting that barges ran the river as early as 1880 to retrieve this valuable product.
Also at this time Estevan Coal was being extracted and used.
