Hey everyone, Im fairly new to Brandon, on Monday night I had two bikes stolen from my garage of my house in the south side of town, they also rummaged through my trunk of my car and out of 7 brand new under armour shirts took the two Mens Large shirts (dark grey). These shirts were not mine, and neither were the bikes.  
 
The police found one of the two bikes, still missing one (2015 Trek 8.5 Dual Sport).  
 
If anyone sees the bike please contact me or the police. The bike is registered with A and L.  
 
I guess the main reason Im posting this is wondering if this is a common thing in Brandon?? I am moving from a town on the west coast where you can leave your house or car unlocked so its all kind of new to me.  
 
Also warning others to be safe and check your doors and garages before bed as all this happened between midnight and 6am.

i would never leave my home or car unlocked intentionally. unforutenaly there are alot of scum living in brandon who would take advantage of honest individuals without a second thought. I have been robbed from a couple times at different addresses.

I lock everything, all the time. There are kids that walk the streets at night, checking garages and door handles to see if cars are unlocked.  
 
Sadly this is a VERY common thing in Brandon, no matter where you live. And even if they get caught there are no real consequences. They should be forced to pick up litter or do some of the jobs that City of Brandon people get paid to do.

Come from a town where you can leave your doors unlocked, keys in vehicles overnight etc. When I moved to Brandon it took getting my car gone through twice and my garage gone through once before I finally had it drilled in my brain not to leave anything unlocked for more than 5 minutes at a time.

Unfortunately this was the case when I moved to Brandon as well. We lived on a quiet bay in the West End and the first night our daughters bike was stolen from the yard. Learned our lesson the hard way.  
 
I've since moved but still live in what is considered a "good area". Left my car unlocked ONE night and the cops came to let me know my car door was wide open and it had been rummaged through. I couldn't believe my luck, that it happened the ONE time I left it unlocked - they said it's not bad luck, that people are trying car doors every single night. Very unsettling that people come so close to your house while you sleep.

just lock your doors and chain the bikes with a lock.  
I would chain my bikes even carry them in my vehicle.  
They make punishment hard on drink and drive perhaps should go hard punishment on stealing as well make thieves think before doing it.

Things go missing in this "good" neighbourhood all the time, all year long and I'm amazed how shocked people are when it happens to them. This isn't 1950.  
 
People need to file reports with the police no matter how insignificant they think the items are that were stolen. It takes 5 minutes tops. You're not bothering the cops. It's their job. How else will they know where things are happening?  
 
I was told we cannot sit in wait for the thieves even though it's on our own property.  
 
Was told to get all neighbours involved in watching out for the neighbourhood. Unfortunately, most people are too busy locking themselves in their homes/yards because that makes them feel safe. They have no interest in watching out for the neighbourhood.  
 
We were told to light up the yards. It doesn't stop theft but it is a deterrent especially if you have lights and cameras.  
 
Lock up everything or cement down things if you don't want them stolen.

Lock everything all the time, bikes out of sight. night lights on everything.  
 
we have had 2 bikes stolen, one out of the yard after a garage sale so I think we were scoped out. funny thing they left the old bike in the lane and took the new bike.

also forgot to lock the back door one night. They actually walked into house, took a purse, cell phones, keys and jackets while we sleep, did not wake up until we heard the back door slam shut.  
 
Cops told us it was common for scum butts to try house doors the same car hopping. if open they walk in, unfortunately you can't get them on break and enter as they did not break in, and if you catch them they will just claim they have the wrong address, that they were told to come by a buddies house that night.  
 
lock smith told us a big guy walked into the ladies bedroom and tickled her feet till she work up screaming then they just laughed and walked out.  
 
on a frosty morning check for foot prints first thing in the morning on your front and rear landings, you might be surprized at the visitors you have had.  
 
did I say lock everything and have night security lights.

See if the items go up on eBrandon afterwards, maybe the jerks will get caught. Hope they are that stupid

Lots of petty crime in Brandon. Lived in the south area of brandon for over a year and the 1 time I left my vehicle unlocked it was rummaged through.  
 
I've seen past threads where people say they would rather leave the car unlocked then have someone smash their window to take stuff. Leaving unlocked is an open invite and if you have no valuables in your car there gonna leave it alone. There are multiple groups of trouble makers in brandon who have no respect for the people around them or their community and as said before have no real consiquenses after.  
 
Hope they find the other bike and you enjoy living in Brandon becuase it's a wonderful little city. If you would like a relocation package or information about the city the Riverbank Discovery Centre will be able to give you lots of useful info.

That is still lost? We have a bike in our backlane that has been there for a few days.

I grew up in Winnipeg during a time when vehicle break-ins were quite regular occurrences, so instead of broken car windows in the mornings from suspected thief's,( 4 windows in total for me in 5 years ) and busted car locks, myself & the people I knew just left the car doors unlocked. BUT we made sure to never left anything of value in cars! It's a habit I still do in Brandon.

My issue is , i called the police, and i was told twice by an officer "they too busy to come to my garage that someone b&e" i was told "next week" they never contacted back!!
