OK lets talk about something new. So tired of seeing that same old breastfeeding argument.  
 
This is just so shocking and sad. Especially for the coworkers, family and fiancé that sat watching this happen from the control room.

and so many will be affected for years to come!  
 
Mental health is so important and the number of guns down there is astounding. I once read an article that talked about number of victims of gun violence in different countries (can't remember if it was per capita or totals and I might be off by a but) but the numbers were something like 58 for UK, 112 for Canada and 11000 for the US. I know there is a pop difference but that is crazy when you see the difference!  
 
Too young and just senseless. Thoughts to all those families and colleagues!

I agree with the OP that all of the posts about breastfeeding, looking for love, and bad driving discussions do become repetitive, this is breaking news this week!  
This story is horrible to hear, the fact that someone would have so much anger and hatred towards that media company can put anyone working in the industry on edge. My deepest sympathy is sent to all those affected.  
Since the firearm laws are so very different in the USA compared to Canada:  
How do you think this act of violence could be prevented?

First reports were that it was a case of revenge for being fired. He also claimed he was being discriminated against among other things. More facts will likely become known.

imagined some sort of mental health issue myself and perhaps a perceived threat from this news team. But yes one has to wonder at the ease of owning and carrying a firearm in that country. Makes a simple flare of tempers deadly.

There were reports that he had been fired from other media newsrooms before for similar reasons, that he was unstable and too difficult to work with. Also, one report mentioned that when he was fired from WDBJ, the police were call to remove him from the building and that he had made what could be called vague threats.

Sadly nothing, they will never remove guns since the NRA owns politics. It would be political suicide for someone to run on that platform.  
 
The only thing would have be to go back in time and make guns less accessible but even then who knows.
