Enough is enough. I have bit my tongue for a few years now. I have a few suggestions on perhaps fixing a few issues. After being stuck in a traffic jam yesterday I've had to post this. 18th Street, if the city or manitoba government spent a little money on some updated signal lights it might help. If they shortened the eastbound and westbound lights on Rosser and Princess in half and lengthened the north and southbound signal lights on 18th to help with the flow of traffic. As for the small amount of pedestrian traffic install pedestrian timed buttons for those intersections for when there is a pedestrian looking to cross across 18th Street. This would allow more traffic to flow on 18th street. I also remember 10 years ago the lights on 18th street were better timed to allow a better flow of traffic. One more thing, can CN rail stop sending trains thru the city at 4 in the afternoon. Yesterday the traffic jam it caused was crazy.

I heard it happened at lunchtime too.  

Geez...good thing you don't live in a big city where major and lengthy traffic back ups are just part of the day.  
 
I don't think I've ever been in a traffic backup here in Brandon that has affected my time very significantly. Sure I've been impatient and frustrated when I hit a train or a backup, and I do agree there are some poor choices in traffic management around the city, but like I said, far better than in a bigger city, that's for sure.

A lot can be done to improve traffic flow in our city.

This is news to me.

Good luck telling CN when and when they can have trains come in and leave the city.  
 
My biggest beef lately with is the medians at the intersections are too short and stick out too much at the ends of them. Victoria Ave east of 18th st. is a prime example of this. If there's more then 4 vehicles on the left lane stopped at a red light, there's not enough room for a vehicle to get into the left turning lane.  
 
Yeah the light syncing bites here but hey, it could be a lot worse. We don't live in Winnipeg for example  

The city needs to do a better job with traffic management!!!! THEY CAN CONTROL THE LENGTH OF THE TRAFFIC LIGHTS!!!  
 
They don't have to wait for a new bridge to be built.  
 
The number of accidents on 18th street is significantly bigger than any other street.

Wait till they start working the 18th street bridge, traffic is going to be a mess and hopefully there isn't a need for the fire department to get south while a train is going by. No 8th street bridge and then blocked at 26th by a train or wait in line trying to get over a bridge under construction.

If you lived in Toronto, then you would have a legitimate complaint. There is bad traffic. Here is not bad at all!

They closed down some of 18th street today in 5 min intervals to film a movie- maybe this was the delay?

City of Brandon traffic is not that bad. I wasn't caught up in the rail crossing blockage the other day; that could have been frustrating.  
 
I was caught up in stopped traffic for nearly an hour two times in BC on the TCH in the last couple of weeks. Traffic was backed up for miles. I'm glad I wasn't in a hurry. Most people were being pretty good natured about it.

I agree we don't live in a big city and all around traffic is not bad but the timing of the lights has been a problem for years. If you hit them just right you will go from one red light directly to the next all the way down 18th or Rosser, the timing could be easily fixed. I took my daughter to the career symposium this year and talked to the MIT guy that was in charge of the controls and he admitted that it is not ideal and they will hopefully get it worked out someday... Seemed to be a low priority however.

Yes there are many things the city and the province could do to improve traffic flow throughout the city however just as many of our problems are caused by bad drivers. How many times have you sat behind a driver that isn't paying attention when the light turns green and wastes half the light before they move? How many drivers have no clue who has the right of way at a four way stop and just sit there when it's their turn to go causing a standoff situation. How many times have you waited to turn onto a busy street only to have the person coming turn without using their signal light, had they let you know they were turning you would have had time to enter the traffic flow. How many times do you see a driver with no sense of depth perception so when they are making a left turn off a major street the rear of their vehicle is left blocking the lane of traffic even though the cutout in the boulevard has more than enough room to accommodate their entire vehicle. What about the ones that do a rolling stop then pull out in front of a line of smoothly moving traffic only to do half the posted speed afterwards slowing everyone else down to a crawl? Everyone keeps complaining about the high price of gas but obviously it is still not high enough because there seems to be a lot of drivers puttering around clogging up the streets that appear to be out there just for the sake of driving around with no real purpose or destination.
