? weird freaky caterpillar-type?????

I have added a pic (I think) of an incredibly large, bright green caterpillar...approx 3/4 inch in diameter and 4 inches long..I found it on my driveway next to garden and it was just motoring along...never seen anything like it, does anyone know what type it is? Have you ever seen another here in Manitoba?
