rules or regulations on fire pits

Hello everyone I currently just bought my first house and I'm wanting to install a fire pit in the yard but i'm unsure if there is any rule or regulations that i have to follow? And where a can purchase a fire pit?(not a above ground fire pit) thanks for your comments.
