I wanted to know if anyone knows where to buy live culture cultured buttermilk. I used to be able to buy it even just a couple years ago here. I can't use the pasteurized after the fact stuff as I need these specific live cultures for certain recipes.  
 
All I have found to date is pasteurized (Superstore, Sobeys). Two Farm Kids didn't appear to have any buttermilk at all. I was kind of hoping they would have something given that certain other products have live cultures (but not cultured products that work for my recipes).  
 
Any help is appreciated.

Suppato cheese is made in Brandon, and they likely wouldn’t have the culture for buttermilk, but might be able to get the proper culture. There is always the chance they will completely ignore you, but no harm in trying.  
I’m not into the online ordering but I think that dry cultures are available for starting natural buttermilk.

What you would need to make your own is “aroma mesophilic culture”. Peavy Mart has some cheese making supplies; I don’t know if they have this. If you find the culture I have the instructions to make the cultured buttermilk.

I had checked Peavey Mart and they have very little for cheesemaking supplies. They had sourced them from the US (from cheesemaking.com, Ricki Carrol), even though there were Canadian suppliers in Ontario (Glengarry) who had quite a great selection. There is also a supply store in Winnipeg that I have been to, but again, it isn't as convenient as something bought in Brandon. Using cultured buttermilk was a less expensive & much more convenient way to culture specific cheeses (like cheddar), etc., so my inquiry here. If I can't find what I need close by, I will be putting in an order online, and then I'd order even more cultures if I went that route. Part of this is to keep my costs (and temptations) down. lol

Are you culturing fresh buttermilk?

Still would like to try making cheese, made a type of cheese many years ago that I thought was a decent cheese.  
My biggest urge about things is I’m looking to buy a decent handmilked cow.  
I know the idea of raw milk riles certain people, but as an adult I think that that product is no more of a danger than tobacco, alcohol, and now cannabis, or a whole bunch of other products.  
If government is willing to let adults choose their poison, my choice would be raw milk.

Milky Whey, no, I was hoping to use cultured buttermilk to make cheddar as I need a mesophilic culture (which it has) to make cheddar. It used to be a convenient and affordable more local option that worked quite well for me in the past.  
 
It is starting to look like I will have to order cultures from Ontario.  
 
Don Brown, we had a Jersey about a year ago and more recently we had a milking shorthorn for sale. Both are now gone. I did see an ad for an exposed Jersey heifer on eBrandon a couple weeks ago. There are 3 listed on Kijiji at the moment. One is at Snowflake, 2 (one crossed) by Oak Lake. If you want the best, my vote is always for a jersey!  
 
I will have to see how to get you those recipes once and for all.  
 
Haha...I can get passionate about raw milk as well. It just is not the villain modern society makes it out to be. The majority of people who are negative toward it really don't understand what it is, how to handle it and so on. They often don't have much of a clue what that stuff in the jug in the store really is either (worlds apart from raw milk) except that it hurts some people's tummies.
