Food shape question

I caught a commercial for a well known breakfast cereal heavily marketing its 'new shape'. I believe you will know which one I am speaking of.
I don't buy into the hype of a 'new' product when in fact it is the same one with a slight shape modification.
Do you feel consumers are too gullible and believe manufacturer's claims too easily?
