Fort Garry or Half Pints: Best local beer?
8/11/2009 at 5:24 PM
For local beer, what do you prefer more, Fort Garry's beer or Half Pints, and why?
I prefer Half Pints? Why? They have the most diverse styles of beer compared to Fort Garry. Their lineup is crazy, for their every day lineup they have a strong (real) India Pale Ale (Little Scrapper), a nice coffee flavoured Stout (Stir Stick Stout), a brown ale called Sweet Nikki brown (as it says on the label: a little sweet and a little bitter, just like my wife (YIKES!!)), as well as their new beer St James Pale Ale.. which is a fan favourite of my friends, I got one of my best friends to try it at a pub in Winnipeg, she was like "if I dont like it, you owe me BIG time!", but now.. its her favourite beer. I like it, my girlfriend likes it, it's a very very good alternative to Labatt Blue, Molson Canadian and Kokanee, plus its local.
As well, they have many seasonal beers in so many varieties, their beer "Humulus Ludicrous" was voted the TENTH best beer in Canada for 2009 by Ratebeer.com, and they were the highest rated brewery in Western Canada.
For me, I like flavour, I like something different than the ordinary. But I find that most people I know like their beer to taste "cold" and be able to see through the beer and thats it, flavour to them is "gross" haha!
I hope Half Pints does well, they really deserve it, their beers are very different than every other prairie brewery that exists.
