Gondola Pizza is based on an US style pizza, really thin crust, with no body (flavor too), and spread of sauce with toppings.
One needs to try different pizza joints when down in the States to find this is very common. In fact, some California/Florida pizzas I have eaten are mainly a tortilla crust with a heavy basil tomato sauce with very little cheese and toppings.
But as for Gondola pizza, I love it, but haven't tried the new location's offering, maybe The Rock isn't following the same recipe. I find the chain pizza like Dominos /Pizza Pizza etc... are all crust and sauce to fill you up, but little true pizza flavor. Pizza Hut is best eaten at the Restaurant , while it is still sizzling in th pan. And all the others, taste 'ok' but I use them as fillers, something to fill the meal slot and fill the stomach.
BUT for true pizza favor and taste, in my opinion, MARINO'S is the best !
