Where is that new restaurant supplier in brandon, it just opened up a few weeks ago, can't seem to find the address for it

Has some good basics. Worth a look and not too bad on price considering the convenience factor. He keeps getting more stuff in so check back every once in a while. The good thing about it is that a "home cook" can go in and buy restaurant quality l!

When you talk of restaurant supplies I was wondering if that included foods, since cash and carry closed there are certain things that we used to purchase in bulk that are hard to find.

This is strictly equipment for the kitchen as well as take out containers. There is plenty of reasonably priced food at SuperStore.

The reason I asked about food was Sobeys cash and carry used to handle big boxes of battered onion rings as well as battered mushrooms, the onion rings I can make myself but the battered mushrooms have always seemed easier to use a prepared product, plus the cost at the cash and carry was very close to buying fresh mushrooms but they were battered.

Food is a provided in Brandon, restaurant equipment is not. We do not need another food store. Maybe that was the problem with Sobey Cash and Carry was that they could not compete with the many food stores in the area.  
 
Have you checked out the grocery stores and M&M?

The above poster is completely misinformed.  
 
Since Cash & Carry closed there is a huge hole in food service supplies in Brandon and surrounding area. Speak with any restaurant operator!!!  
 
Now that Derek has started up his business it helps out on the equipment end.  
 
The main reason Cash & Carry closed is because it didn't fit in with the business model of the parent company.  
 
The direction the parent company was/is heading does not i:nclude or have plans in place for a one off location such as Cash & Carry.  
 
Having worked there for 28+ years I know what I''m talking about...unlike others

Haven't been there for a while but M & M used to carry both.  
 
As for Brandon "not needing another food store", don't agree. Stan's was always busy and is missed by a lot of people.  
The market will determine what is needed or not.

i agree, not sure where Kat gets the idea a restaurant/bulk supply store for the littler restaurants or larger food shopping isnt wanted or needed, many i know are missing the cash and carry and are sad it didnt fit the business model for sobeys  
 
personally I dont know enough abut the supply chain to take on the venture but i wonder if there is an opportunity for someone, maybe even the person who is doing the restaurant supply to add the food end too

I was sort of hoping that maybe it would have followed the cash and carry idea, but to do so it would likely have to have the backing of Pratts, or Sysco foods. I think that most small town resturants usually order or get deliveries only once a week and if they needed certain food items there could have a place to go. There was mention of M and M carrying mushrooms but I imagine the price would have been much higher, was able to get 4 kg of battered mushrooms between 23 and 26 dollars, there were other things like Sunday toppings, pie fillings, drink syrups and other things that were nice to be able to buy.

To start an outlet similar to Cash & Carry the start up cost would be astronomical.  
 
Well into 7 figures to outfit an building with equipment necessary to operate and inventory a location.  
 
The parent company sold off most of the equipment and fixtures and decommissioned what remained. The building was left as a shell to prevent someone moving in and starting up.  
 
As well you would need the backing of multiple suppliers(Don Brown is correct), and buying power.  
 
An individual wouldn't get the same pricing as a large corporation. This is crucial to remain competitive.

I did wonder about buying power, its to bad the price of start up makes it hard  
 
i wonder why they did not want a competitor trying to take over the building, its not like the smaller guys are going to sobeys to buy their supplys, most I know are going to supper store or sysco, my guess is they would still be thinking if someone else filled the market their grocery store sales would still go down from people like don so as a business decision i think i get it but it does leave a hole in service for brandon restaurants and other smaller businesses that used them

It would be highly unlikely a competitor would attempt to set up shop in Brandon.  
 
The trend has been centralizing...ie Winnipeg, Regina, Calgary, etc.  
 
It is cheaper for Food Service Suppliers to ship from large centres (Winnipeg) rather then warehouse product in smaller centres (Brandon, Dauphin etc).  
 
This sucks for our local and surrounding area businesses and individuals.
