You'll get the best long term bang for your buck with a Toyota or a Honda just generally. We've had 3 three cars at some point (Honda Civic, Toyota Yaris and Kia Rio) and hands down the Toyota was our fav followed closely by the Honda. The Kia is near the bottom of the list populated with other cars we've owned over the years.
The Honda we drove for 14 years when we finally retired it (it was 18 years old at that point) and the Yaris sadly got written off due to collision. But we got nearly double from Autopac vs what we paid for it in the end (this was pre-pandemic too when used car prices were normal). The Kia depreciated significantly and wasn't made nearly as sturdy as the others.
I should add that all 3 cars gave us trouble-free driving, although the Kia waa much much newer than the others. But I would still buy a 10 year old Toyota over a 2 year old Kia any day in terms of reliability.
