Just had my carb rebuilt but I can’t get my car to run. Carbs are a little out of my wheelhouse. If anyone can help I would appreciate it.

1979 Lincoln Continental. Looked at every video I could I think of. . Have pulled out all the hair I can afford.

Not knowing what you have done so far. You have to make sure the rest of the engine is functioning properly  
Compression testing , new plugs and wires and so on. Once you have proven the engine to be good the carb will operate as desired with little adjustments  
Vacuum testing is critical Also

Had a relative bring his car to me because his reasonably freshly rebuilt engine would not run with his new carb. The garage that installed the carb could not get the engine to run right. I checked the timing and found the engine worked better with the timing advanced about 20°. So I guessed that the timing chain was on wrong from the rebuild. Sure enough, one tooth out. I tried to start it before closing up the chain cover, and it was still crap. Checked the valve train with a dial indicator, and the camshaft had several flat lobes.  
I wish it had just been the carb.

The car ran fine and it runs strong now. It refuses to idle or let me drive it. In the driveway it’s a beast. My tachometer/dwell meter would stall the engine every time I hooked it up. Don’t have a vacuum gauge. I was hoping I could get an older mechanic with carb experience to look at and get it running properly. Willing to assist with their time of course.

in your first post you said " I can’t get my car to run", now you say that it is running but keeps stalling when you try to drive.  
Perhaps join CAA if not already a member and call them out or have it towed to nearest auto shop.

The engine runs well. Take my foot off the gas, it stalls. Put it in gear and feather it I can get it moving. Take my foot off the gas it stalls. I roll to a stop. Start it again, feather gas move a little more. If you know of a great carb genius, let me know. I’ll try to get the car to them. No guarantees

Sounds like the idle jet or passages are plugged.

That’s one of the reasons it’s so frustrating.

For what reason was the carb rebuilt? Was there a problem prior to the rebuild? If it was mine I’d take it apart, double check everything and clean it thoroughly myself , while making sure that everything is to spec. I like to force engine oil through the passages with an oil can and then clean with carb cleaner, the hydraulic pressure of the oil can clean out a pretty bad blockage. A service manual is your best friend.  
As others have said often people look for a running problem in the carburetor when it’s often another engine or ignition problem.

Before taking anything apart again- let's try some basics first.  
With some of the info provided a bit muddy let's break down what we know so far:  
 
-the car will indeed run with your foot on the accelerator pedal, yet stalls when released. (Simply up the idle speed screw so it can at least idle)  
 
-the car ran and idled before the carburetor rebuild- (time for tuning)  
 
-try to get it to run properly without first condemning the rebuilt carb- quite possibly all it needs is:  
-base idle adjustment  
-choke adjustment so it comes on when engine is cold, fully off when engine is warm  
-idle mixture screw adjustments (with engine warmed up fully at idle)  
 
There are some good books about basic engine tuning available from online or book stores if you wanted to tackle it yourself.  
 
Also: when looking online for videos about carburetor tuning, if you can't find one that directly applies to your year/make/model of vehicle, perhaps omit that from the search and look for basic v8 carburetor tuning videos- as you may get more hits that way.  
 
I know there are several different types and manufacturers of carburetor but the basic principals of carburetion apply to all of them.  
Find some really good vids and try your best.  
 
Maybe a carb whiz or hot rodder will see your post and offer to help for a few bucks...  
 
If all else fails have it towed to a decent shop with some older techs or hot rod type folks working there- as many younger techs have never seen/worked on carbureted vehicles.

Apparently there is a person that works at NAPA on Queens Ave that is an expert carburetor man. Ask about him at the parts counter.

Randy rebuilt it. Happy with the work he did, just need it set up. No tach no vacuum gauge on my part.

a lot of questions. The fellow is looking for answers I read. It's hard to find experience with carbs as fuel injection has been the norm since the eighties. A fellow with some snow on the top of the mountain is required. Trying to diagnose an issue without seeing is only a guess, at best.

Qualified Mechanic and auto electrician with 30 years experience, fuel injection, engine management, carburetor, diesel , automotive, heavy duty and small engine experience. Just trying to help someone out and pass on what was passed by those I learned from.  
Without questions one will never find an answer to a problem.

you found someone to help you out. Can you give us an update?

Took the car to the wonderful people at Minute Muffler and they found a vacuum leak between the carburetor spacer and the intake manifold. Part ordered and by Monday I should be rolling again.
