My father passed away, and we need to sell his car. It runs fine, but it does need some work (currently on a donut, has a busted rim) and a safety... but I'm not in a position to be putting money into it right now. So how do you sell a car "As is"? How do you know what your asking price should be? Are there any legal implications? Could this come back to haunt me?

When you sell "as is" you are upfront being honest to say you do not make any claims about the condition of the car. The onus is on the buyer to determine the condition of the car.  
 
As to price. Most dealerships have a book to look up the value of a vehicle but will run and hide as they do not want to be involved. You can ask but don't expect help as they want to avoid legal liability. Your local bank loans officer may be able to help. MPI will have a book as to wholesale and retail values.  
 
Heaven forbid. Put a post on here as to age mileage etc and someone may be able to offer you some suggestions.  
 
Selling as is should not be a legal concern

You can sell private or if you want to sell it right away go to Marshall Motors and they will give you a quote for what its worth and if you accept they will cut you a cheque. I sold a old rusted POS truck a while back, definitely not safetied, with no issue

imo all private sales are as is unless the seller makes promises or huge fabricated claims so dont do that and nothing will come back and haunt you lol ( also make sure you are the rightful owner allowed to sell the car for the estate because if you are not that could become an issue, one where you owe the estate i assume you are tho)  
 
for value i have always looked at other adds either on here or winnipeg and saw what similar verticals were going for, if yours needs more repairs then deduct a reasonable amount. look at age, condition, kms features ect to determine this. if you want it sold quick price it low, or price it medium and allow for you to go down a bit in price, and really thats all you b=need to do

Any vehicle, whether it is sold privately or by a dealer, is sold in "as is" condition unless some sort of warranty terms are specified in the documents. It's never a bad idea to include a phrase such as "vehicle is being sold in as is condition", or a similar statement.  
 
A common misconception is that "as is" means unsafetied. Even a vehicle with a valid COI is usually sold "as is", at least in private transactions.
