So I’m getting new winter tires and was wondering , should I stud or not ? I do a lot of highway driving and well as a lot of in Brandon driving ! Thank you

It’s on a Chevy Cruze

I drive a similar size care-different make-i use Dunlop Wintermaxx tires and have no need of studs-handling is amazing on snow and ice, highway or city. It is possible that some other tires would not be as good.

while studding is the ultimate for traction on ice and hard pack snow,it does not take long to wear off the studs if you drive prolongrd distance on dry pavement,secounf year they are not much better than no stud winter grip tires. p.s been in automotive industry 31 years.

If you drive lots, stud your tires.  
Im going on 3 years, 60k km mostly highway on my studded winter tires this year. Nothing compares to studded tires.  
Studs are holding out better than I expected , rubber looks nearly new.  
 
PS I have a Cruze also

highway still as noisey as they used to be.

would be interesting to see some data comparing winter tires with and with out studs

These are the tires I have with studs. They are a bit noisy on dry pavement, but I only notice the noise if my window is down.  
 
I can hand on heart say these studded tires have paid for themselves by keeping me out of the ditch last year alone. We all remember all the ice last year, when cars were hitting the ditch, I was able to keep my car completely under control.  
Slow is smooth, smooth is fast.  
 
In the end, today’s winter tires are awesome, adding studs to them make them even better, especially on ice.
