So distressing that another shelter is destroyed at the Discovery center .

I didn't realize there was a shelter at the Discovery center, but you see now it's going to be closed?  
That's too bad because we have so many homeless and I'm not sure if this is for homeless people or women in distress. But either way it's too bad because they really need the beds. You know. I watch I see homeless people at 2:00 or 3:00 in the morning. Walking down my back alley. You know and I see a lot of them so there's a lot out there that just have nowhere to stay and they're just getting by

This is so unbelievably vague. No information on what exactly the shelter is (do you mean something was vandalized, something is being torn down, something is being shut down, etc).  
Really, so hard to understand what exactly the subject of the story is here without providing info or links.

You are correct . It was vague. I was referring to the picnic shelter.

What happened to it? The city tore it down? It burnt down? Vandalism?

Boy did that get blown out of proportion

OH nooo.. what happened? was it made out of wood? or was it plastic resin?

The OP says it was "destroyed"...I take that as either a natural disaster or vandalism.

Fire at Riverbank under investigation

Brandon Fire and Emergency Services and an insurance company are investigating a fire on the grounds of the Riverbank Discovery Centre that occurred earlier this month.  
 
A fireplace was destroyed and a picnic shelter damaged after a fire broke out on the morning of Oct. 5. Emergency crews responded and the investigation is continuing, BFES Chief Terry Parlow told the Sun on Wednesday.  
 
The cause of the fire is not known. The fireplace was being used during the previous week as part of National Truth and Reconciliation Day, with ceremonies taking place there until the morning of Oct. 4.  
 
Riverbank Discovery Centre executive director Dean Hammond said it’s still too early to speculate about what happened, calling it an “unfortunate” incident.  
 
“There’s no point in speculating on probable cause because we just don’t know,” he said Wednesday.  
 
Hammond said the organization will wait for its insurance company to report back before deciding next steps.  
 
“Once the insurer does their thing and gets back to us, then of course we’ll evaluate,” he said. The organization will look at potentially how, or if, it will rebuild, and how the fireplace can be used in the future.  
 
The fire did “touch upon the roof,” he said, but other equipment, including nearby picnic tables, weren’t affected.  
 
He said he hopes to hear back from the insurance company in the near future with damage estimates and the cause of the fire. » alambert@brandonsun.com
