New classified feature: Favourite ads (aka Watch lists)

As we approach spring cleaning season around the house, I’m continuing to do my digital version of the same on eBrandon. Last week the search abilities of the classifieds were upgraded to give everyone browsing the site much more flexibility to find what they’re looking for. Today I’m excited to roll out what might just be the most requested feature of the past several years… the ability to “favourite” any ad that you’d like to keep an eye on and return any time to see a list of those favourites that you’ve built.
You’ll notice that on each ad on the website there’s now a “Favourite” link/star icon (added a picture to this thread as a sample). As long as you have a registered eBrandon account and are logged into that account, you’ll be able to click on that new link on any ad to easily add it to your favourites list. If you don’t have an account its as easy as clicking on the Signup link at the top of the page.
When logged in to your account you can then view the list of favourites that you’ve built any time by going to your profile page and clicking on the new “My favourite ads” link. To make it that much easier to access and to save you a click, you’ll notice that a new popup menu shows up as you hover your mouse over top of “Profile” at the top-left of any page on eBrandon as long as you’re logged into your account.
On your favourites page there have been a number of tools built in to allow you to sort, filter and organize to find and follow the ads and perhaps deals that you’re looking for.
You can for example:
- have it only display ads you’ve favourited that have had their price reduced or have it only show ads that are not yet marked as sold
- you can also customize how your list is sorted to for example show you ads based on how soon they are expiring (to perhaps see if a deal can be had) or based on which have the cheapest prices.
- of course you can also have it only display ads in a specific category, so if you are shopping for a car and have favourited ten cars that have caught your attention you can easily see only those cars without having to scroll through other ads you've favourited in other categories.
Also on the favourites page you can easily remove any ads from your favourites list if you’re no longer wanting to follow them. Note that ads that expire or are deleted by their seller will automatically be removed so there’s no need to be constantly returning to do housekeeping on your list. Ads that have been marked as sold will show in your list so that you know their status, however you can use the “Show” dropdown menu to have them not be displayed.
Note that your favourites list is kept private and not shared on your profile page publicly with anyone except yourself. There would be the option in the future to indicate on each ad how many people have favourited it, but that info would be displayed anonymously just as a way to give an idea of how popular any given ad is.
All in all this adds a new dimension to the classifieds that’ll make it that much easier to find and buy what you’re looking for and to sort through the 15,000+ ads that are active on the site. Over and above this there are other options that can take things a step further in the future such as making your same list available in the App and Mobile versions of eBrandon, but we’ll start from here and build out as needed.
If anyone has any questions on this feature don’t hesitate to ask. As always I appreciate feature suggestions for the site over and above this, but for the sake of this thread being on the topic of this particular feature I’d ask that brand new suggestions please be sent through the Contact & Support link at the bottom of the page. Thanks!
